BREEAM Award Nominations

CBC are proud to announce that we have received recognition in the BREEAM Awards through both individual and project nominations in the Lifecycle Impact Commitment and Future Sustainability Advocate categories. While awards are never the primary goal, they offer an opportunity to reflect on projects and acknowledge the dedication that goes into delivering measurable, meaningful outcomes in the built environment.

Life Cycle Impact Commitment

We are excited to see TN2 Gateway recognised in the Lifecycle Impact Commitment category. This logistics development demonstrates how robust, evidence-based decision-making can translate into tangible reductions in environmental impact.

The project demonstrates a rigorous, data-led whole-life approach to carbon reduction, embedding lifecycle thinking into design decisions from concept through technical design. Multiple superstructure, substructure and envelope options were appraised using One Click LCA at both RIBA Stage 2 and Stage 4, enabling evidence-based material selection and securing enhanced and exemplary BREEAM Mat 01 credits. The final design prioritizes low-carbon solutions such as cement replacement with GGBS, high recycled content metals, modular and durable envelope systems, and clear end-of-life recycling pathways, with strong alignment between LCA and life cycle costing to drive long-term value and resilience.

The approach supports not only net zero outcomes but also long-term resilience, critical in the logistics sector. The project team overcame several technical and organisational challenges to deliver a genuinely whole‑life, low‑carbon outcome. Finally, a demonstrable lifecycle strategy supports adaptability and circularity, enabling materials to be reused or recycled at end of life and safeguarding residual value. Collectively, these outcomes deliver a resilient, low-risk, high-performance asset that remains desirable, compliant and investable across its full lifecycle, maximizing long-term value rather than short-term gains.

Championing Future-Focused Sustainability

This category celebrates individuals dedicated to ongoing professional development and sustainability learning, using innovative practices to support positive change in the built environment. The Future Sustainability Advocate finalists category highlights individuals who have demonstrated active learning, development, and sustainability leadership.

Our very own Dr Ayesha Batool, has been shortlisted in this category. Ayesha’s work exemplifies the intersection of research and real-world application. Her academic expertise and professionalism, particularly in daylighting and occupant behaviour, has led to the certification of over 60 BREEAM projects across a broad range of sectors, from healthcare and residential to logistics and data centres. The majority of these have achieved Excellent ratings or higher. She has developed structured certification methodologies, established internal knowledge-sharing forums, and actively mentors emerging professionals while supporting Nottingham’s net zero ambitions.

CBC: Committed to continuous improvement

While these nominations recognise specific individuals and projects, they also reflect our wider commitment to continuous improvement. The CBC team of mechanical and electrical engineers collaborate effectively with designers, clients, and various stakeholders. We strongly believe that communication and shared practice are the key to unlocking success. It represents our commitment and belief that successful sustainable outcomes are rarely the result of a single contribution.

As a consultancy, we remain grounded in the understanding that there is always more to learn and more to do. Recognition from organisations like BREEAM encourages us to keep refining our approach, supporting our people, and contributing positively to the built environment.

We are grateful to be part of an industry that continues to raise the bar and proud of the people and partnerships that make progress possible.
