West Midlands Interchange targets EPC A+ and BREEAM excellent ratings

Cudd Bentley are proud to have been instructed to facilitate the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) sustainability design for units 3010 and 3020 as part of the innovative West Midlands Interchange project. The proposed efficiencies, Energy Performance Certificates (EPC), and net zero carbon aims of this development are targeting values which are quite unique, and market leading.

The units will target an EPC A+ rating, which is the highest available. This will be accomplished through the inclusion of photovoltaics (PV) panels of the warehouse roofs, and improved passive measures. The PV will also allow the units to deliver substantial energy savings for the tenants, reducing energy use, bills, and costs.

The development is targeting a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) “Excellent” rating through the Building Research Establishment (BRE). These BREEAM ratings are a credible framework for world leading science-based validation and certification systems for a sustainable built environment and is the market recognition of buildings with a low environmental impact. BREEAM Assessments provide a holistic approach to integrate sustainability within development design from inception to ensure sustainability targets are deliverable.
