Barchester Healthcare – Oxted, Surrey
The project comprises a 60 Bed Nursing Home over 2 storeys. In order to obtain planning permission it was necessary to submit a Renewable Energy Study to demonstrate that 20% of the Building’s Energy Consumption would be provided by a Removable Energy Source.
This has resulted in the provision of a Biomass Boiler which operates as the principle heat source, with back up being provided by a traditional Gas Boiler. In addition, passive design measures have been incorporated including solar shading and improvements to the building fabric. Other energy efficiency initiative includes daylight sensor, heat reclaim and a ‘passivent’ high efficiency ventilation system.
