Cudd Bentley Consulting proudly marked a significant milestone this year with a nomination at the 2026 CIBSE Building Performance Awards, held on 5th March at the Park Plaza. Being shortlisted for a CIBSE Award is widely regarded as a mark of excellence in the built environment sector and is a testament to our position as a sustainable engineering consultancy within the industry.

The CIBSE BPAs stand apart as the only awards in the industry that focus on measured, real-world building performance, rather than design intent or theoretical outcomes. Open to organisations and individuals worldwide, the awards celebrate those who design, commission, construct, install, and operate low‑energy, high‑performance buildings and the manufacturers whose products enable them.

A nomination alone signals that a consultancy is operating at the forefront of sustainable engineering, contributing meaningfully to the transition toward low‑carbon, high‑performance-built environments.

Nomination: Embodied Carbon Award – Services and Project (Consultants)

CBC was honoured to be shortlisted in the Embodied Carbon Award – Services and Project: For Consultants category. This category recognises exceptional contributions to understanding, assessing, and reducing embodied carbon in building service, an area of growing importance as the industry works toward net‑zero carbon goals.

We were shortlisted alongside respected industry leaders including ARUP, Buro Happold, SCSS – Introba Consulting, and Skanska SRW. While each finalist brings a different specialism from embodied carbon analysis to environmental impact assessments, the collective shortlist reflects the breadth of expertise required to reduce carbon emissions across the built environment.

This nomination acknowledges CBC’s commitment to advancing embodied carbon methodologies and supporting clients in making informed, low‑carbon design decisions.

Why Embodied Carbon Matters

Embodied carbon emissions associated with materials, manufacturing, transport, installation, maintenance, and end‑of‑life, have become a major focus in sustainable engineering. As operational carbon continues to fall through improved efficiency and renewable energy, embodied carbon now represents a significant share of a building’s total lifecycle emissions.

The award highlights work that:

  • Advances embodied carbon assessment in building services
  • Supports low‑carbon design strategies
  • Balances embodied, operational, and safety considerations
  • Contributes to long‑term, durable, and genuinely low‑carbon outcomes

The award went to Swegon, and judges praised their ability to “go beyond conventional thinking in terms of low‑carbon and circular product design.”

Celebrating Excellence in Building Performance

Although CBC did not take home the award on the night, the team was proud to stand alongside some of the most respected building services consultancies in the industry. The evening offered an opportunity to celebrate innovation, reconnect with peers, and recognise the collective progress being made toward a more sustainable built environment.

The nomination itself is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Cudd Bentley’s Sustainability Team, whose work continues to help clients reduce embodied carbon and achieve meaningful environmental outcomes.
